The Una Europa Joint Bachelor of Arts in European Studies (BAES) is a unique joint programme, co-developed by eight Una Europa partner universities. The programme examines the fundamental aspects and values of the European Union as well as European states and societies. Adopting a multidisciplinary approach, it reflects on the role of Europe in the world and offers research skills to analyse key issues related to Europe. Through the extensive mobility programme, students will not only learn about Europe but also experience, live and grow in an international setting.

Mobility pathways and destinations

In the first year, all BAES students will start their studies at one of the 4 so-called 'start universities':

  • KU Leuven (Belgium)
  • Alma Mater Studiorum Università di Bologna (Italy)
  • Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain)
  • Uniwersytet Jagiellonski w Krakowie (Poland)

In the second and third year of the programme, students will have to go on mobility - to one or even two different universities - depending on the choice of their specializations. Students can then also select one of the mobility partners to go to:

  • Freie Universität Berlin (Germany)
  • Helsingin Yliopisto/Helsingfors universitet (Finland)
  • The University of Edinburgh (United Kingdom)
  • Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (France)
  • Universität Zürich (Switzerland)

Study Programme

In semesters 1, 2 and 3 (92 ECTS), the students follow the truncus communis, including introductory courses to various disciplines, multidisciplinary courses on Europe, a methodology track and language courses.

In semesters 4, 5 and 6, they follow a major and a minor module (78 ECTS) and develop a bachelor's thesis (10 ECTS).

They follow one major module for up to 60 ECTS and one minor module for at least 18 ECTS in two different fields of study:

  • Law and Criminology
  • Politics and International Relations
  • Communication, Education, Gender and Sociology
  • Business and Economics
  • Philosophy
  • History
  • Languages and Culture

Each university offers different modules, so the university choice and specialisation choice are linked.
